1990 Montero body lift problem

2 yrs ago I bought a 90 Montero, with 33" tires. Looked bad ass. This yr I bought new tires all around (again 33's) and went to Les Schwab to get my shocks done, and they tell me my shocks are brand new, my torsion arms have been raised all the way up preventing the shocks from being used. What can I do? They said get smaller tires (I just paid $1000 for tires) or get a lift. Suspension lift from OME is only a 1.75" lift and thats not enough clearance. And would cost me $1500 for parts and install. So I went with a 3" body lift. $150, and found a shop to do it for $250.
Now the problem, I drove to work that morning and noticed when in gear they sound like their grinding hard. I looked under the hood and the engine isn't inline with the fan, and maybe not inline with the tranny? I'm a cook, not a mechanic. All I know is it sounds like **** when I drive, and there for something is wrong. I'm getting the torsion arms dropped today, and hopefully that helps.
Any thought's, or experience anything like this?
Rob
