1993 Montero SR...help!
I just bought a 1993 Montero SR so I'd have a 4x4 to get me through the winter. I wasn't able to properly test drive it because the rear shocks were totally gone. I just put new rear shocks on it and now I've noticed a few problem that I may need help with.
1. There is a "clunking" noise in the rear passenger-side when I go over bumps. 2. The suspension seems very unstable. Anytime I go over bumps or uneven surfaces there is significant body roll. Does anybody have any ideas on what the nature of these problems could be? Thanks for your help! Ivan |

Sounds as if you may need a hub assembly.

RE: 1993 Montero SR...help!
Hello ivanjackson,
I have a 95 and when the noise started on the back passenger side, it turned out to be the rubber in the rear sway bar links. I went down to Checkers and got some neoprene replacements and the noise has gone away. I also noticed the body sway, even after the sway bar was working properly. I ordered the KYB Monomax shock on line for about 45.00 ea. and the body sway is much much better. A word of caution, the shocks took about 3 weeks and two trips on trails to break the shocks in. They are very good now, but until they are broken in they are very very very stiff. Hope this helps |
