1994 Montero SR rough idle

I was wandering if anyone can help me. I have a 1994 montero sr with the 3.5l dohc. I just got the timimg belt replaced. It ran fine for about a month. Then it started idling rough. I thought it was maybe the idle control valve, because i had replaced one on my old montero but it has different symptoms. It spits and sputters aroound 2000rpms it sounds like its missing but it runs just fine minus the fact that i noticed a severe drop in fuel mileage. It has 184,000 on it and i would like to keep it a while longer so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for your advice. I replaced the IAC. The motor still runs rough at 2000rpm. An other ideas?

change your plugs and wires

Thanks I changed the plugs and wires and it runs 100 times better. I found found one plug covered in oil. It was obviously the culprit. But i have read this can be caused by numerous things. Any idea on what to do short of a total rebuild?

sounds like the o-rings in the valve cover under the plug wires holes are leaking get a valve cover set and change the valve cover gaskets
