1996 Montero center console
 

Hi guys I'm trying to remove the center console of my monty to install a volt gauge. The only thing that wont let me is the 4x4 shifter (don't know how it is called). Any idea how to remove this?

Mine's a '99 but that knob simply unscrews as I recall. Don't see why yours should be different. If pure twisting force won't work there may be a jamb nut at the bottom that needs to be backed off. It's recessed up into the soft rubber lip at the bottom of the knob, See if you can force the proper size open end wrench up in there to back it off or at least hold it while you unscrew the knob.
