2001-2006 Montero, is the gear indicators on the shifter lighted?
 

At night is the P N R D suppose to be lighted? Don't think mine is at night, seeing if this is normal or if there is a light out.
The indicator on the dash works fine.

there is one bulb for the gear shift assembly. gonna have to take out the center console to gain access.

Yea I was a bit confused why there was no light. I swore there was before.

I'm very acquainted with removing the panels now as I have ripped it apart a few times for stereo installs.

I pop out the cup holders and surely enough there was the harness I forgot to put back. Ill be removing the entire thing to install some headrest screens/dvd so the labor is not wasted.

How do you remove the gear console on a 2002? I don't seem to be able to get mine off to swap out the burnt gear bulb. Is there a site for an online manual with instructions?

Oh yea I fixed this no problem. When I was doing a full stereo amp install and ran hella wires I forgot to plug the harness back in.

You have to remove the shift knobs. The 4WD selector is just twist counter clock wise. The main shifter you pop down the piece on the bottom to reveal 2 philips screws. remove than shifter should come out.

Then pop out the cup holder, and youll see more visible philips screws. After that pry/pop the console out.

SIMPLE.

as for the GAUGE CLUSTER DASH, 2 philips, I believe, then pop out.

no manual needed really. Straight forward.

I just bought my 2002 Monterro Sport, and noticed it was out. Although I didn't know if it wa s out, or if it was a cost reduction, since there is a gear-inidcator light on the dash as well! I will have to try this this weekend!
