2001 Montero Sport Front rotor problems

I am doing the front brakes on my 2001 mitsubishi montero sport ls 4wd. I bought new rotors and pads. I had a tough time getting the rotors off but have finally removed the one bolt that was obviously put on by an air wrench because that sucker was on there GOOD. So now I have the rotors off and there are two pieces that are attached to the old rotor that need to go on the new one. The first is a rather large piece that mounts to the front of the rotor and is a housing for all the gears and bearings that I took out. It had 6 bolts that I took off. The second piece is a small circular ring that goes on the back side that came off with no problem. Looking at the new rotor it seems like that large piece just sits flush with the front of it and is held on with the bolts that I removed. I put the rotor in a vice grip and tried to pry a large flat head screw driver in between the two to get some separation. Its obvioulsy been attached for a while and has some rust and grime. I sprayed it with wd40 and everything. I broke that screw driver after i put enough torque on it and it was one of the big ol foot long thick flathead screw drivers. Anybody have any ideas why I cant seem to get these two pieces to separate.
