2001 Montero XLS - Recall Accumulator Problem -- Please help!

So I have a 2001 Montero XLS with 168k miles. I posted earlier this week about my car's problem. Well it looks like it may be the accumulator. The problem is that my whole braking system was replaced 5 years ago, and in 2001 the original owner had the accumulator replaced. The warranty of 150k / 10 years on the accumulator replacement does not apply to me because I am over the limit.

How do I proceed? I am currently in San Diego, anyone recommend a shop that can do this work and not cost an arm and leg?

Thanks!

recall accumulator problem

I don't know what the accumulator problem is?
I have a 2001 Montero with 112K miles.
Can anyone tell what this problems relates to?

Please describe the problem you're having.

I had mine replaced on '09 when my rig had about 85k.
The unit began making noise. It sounds like it's coming from under the dash.
I seem to remember it sounding like a clicking or chirping noise.
Make sure they are using OEM parts if you're not taking it to the dealer.
I replaced mine with MM part # 4630A011

Good Luck

Accumulator recall

I have had two replaced on my 2001 since purchase in 2002. Each was covered under a factory recall on the device. Check with a dealer to see if they will still honor the federal recall on the brakes.

Iliqid8, the accumulator is another name for the brake booster; it's the large round contraption against the firewall directly behind the brake master cylinder. It increases the pressure of the brake pedal as it activates your brakes.

Dealer problems

I have the same car, same problem although here in Costa Rica, the dealer just refused to do the recall work.

they said that they must replace the pump too and the job would cost $4,000
I left

As I understand it.

It is a pressure tank for your ABS brake system. The tank leaks and the pump then overheats trying to keep up to the point the computer shuts down, the ABS alarm goes off, and then you have no breaks.
This can be remedied by turning off the car, pulling the ABS fuses under the hood, turn on the ignition, reinsert the fuses, back to normal for a while.

My ABS is now acting up and making a loud noise. Will they still replace mine since it was recalled so long ago. It has never been replaced since I had the vehicle on 2005. Please advise
