2003 Montero - cabin air filter

Hi all.... just purchased a 2003 Montero Limited. It had a funny smell in it, so I purchased a new cabin air filter on Amazon (they said it fit my car), but I cannot locate a cabin air filter anywhere. Does anyone know where it is and how to access it? Thanks.

To my knowledge the Gen. III Montero did not come with a cabin air filter.

However, I did modify the cabin air duct to accept a filter.

I purchased the filter from a friend in Australia.
Here is the link to give you an idea of how to proceed.

Mr. Z - thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in my response. I am a teacher and have been preoccupied the last few weeks.

Strange - why would they not put a filter in it? Seems unhygienic... does that mean that all of the dust/dirt is just stuck in the compartment? Trying to see if this is worth the time and money. Perhaps it is unnecessary?

Pretty sweet mod - I am thinking I am gonna try it myself.

Here is the part I found - only concern is that is says it is for right handed vehicles... why would this make a difference?

Although I didn't pull my glove box to check the part number, that looks to be the correct filter. What is the e-bay shipping cost to the states? I sent a pm to Wayne (op of the thread) and he mailed it to me...the postage was a fair bit. If you order a couple, then with cleaning they should last a little while. I've blown mine out numerous times with my compressor, and it cleans up well. If you drive in dusty conditions, this is a very appealing mod. The other dust modification I did was taping filters on the vents behind the tail light assembly. It works a treat in keep the rear of the rig a bit more dust free.
Good Luck

That is a sweet mod.

MM actually makes a complete air filter kit for all of the vents in the cabin.
This includes the rear vents behind the light assemblies and the vents under the
bottom sill of the door jam (they are hiding under the plastic tread).
Many of the folks in Australia use this kit.

Do you happen to have a link for this?

I don't know the part number, but can head you in the right direction.
