Default 2003 Montero Sport Binding when backing up and turning wheel

Hello,

I just had my mechanic replace/repair my 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS AWD transmission. When I was backing out from the shop garage I notice that when I turn my steering wheel to the right and back up slowly there is this grabbing feeling on the wheels. My mechanic mentioned the word "binding". He also mentioned the Transfer Case. Anyone experienced this same thing? is it truly the Transfer case. Its just depressing that I just paid for the Transmission repair, and now this. Please Help!

Is their away to check that you don't have a front hub still locked. Also, how long has it been since you changed the transfer case fluid.

Thanks Todd I will ask the mechanic. Is that typical when the transmissions replaced?

It could be the transmission, but I'm not an expert. I don't know when the last time your transfer case fluid was changed, but I would change the fluid before I considered replacing. I have had cars that "bind" and "vibrate" stemming from the power train, and occasionally a fluid change/flush would solve the problem.

Did you have this "binding up" issue before you dropped your truck at the mechanic? If not - they did something wrong during the repair. Take it back and have them fix is (you should not have to pay for it - their mistake).
If on the other hand you had this issue - then it is ether transfer case, or front axle engaging. Again, a good mechanic should have looked into it before customer picked up the truck from repairs.

Nope, one time my hub would not disengage and and it felt like it was binding. Replaced fluids to the transfer case and have not experienced the problem since. What was the original problem for the trans fix?
