3.0 Timing Issue

Here's the rundown...

I have been fighting this 87 raider for awhile now. I have dropped in a 6g72 12v sohc out of an 89 montero and won the battle with the wiring and no spark issue. Now I got a 30k spark on all 6 cylinders but when I go to turn it over it just kicks over for a couple time and sputters out like its trying to start but wont. sometimes it cranks fine for a few seconds and then it will start to make a horrible metal on metal noise and it cranks over slow and lopsided is the best way to describe it and it seems like the starter has no power. everything lines up at tdc and the distributor is installed correctly so any input or anyone else have any ideas? I have yet to try the ignition spark adjuster but all the research i have done on that says I gotta have it idling. kinda hard to do when the damn thing wont start. lol

Hi, did you ever get your problem figured out? I've got a similar issue with my 91 3.0 Montero. I just had the heads redone after a blown head gasket (2nd time in 30K miles) and I can't get it to start. I tore the front apart to check the timing marks again to make sure I hadn't screwed something up and they're perfect. I've got spark, but I'm wondering if the problem might be the computer?.
