Default 87 montero, crank, no start

a buddy of mine has a 87 montero 2 door 2.6L with a manual transmission, the other day he went to leave work and it wouldnt start. So he asked me to look at it. It will crank over fine, so i decided to try to use some carb cleaner to see if it would fire up and nothing. Next i checked the spark and that is good, and just for the heck of it i unhooked the fuel line going into the carb and thats coming out good. so i started searching and i found some sites with alot of people talking about an inhibitor switch going bad, but this is a manual. So i thought heck ill check the clutch switch and it dosnt have one. Im thinking it has to be something electrical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad ecu, check to see if your getting an injector pulse.

Uh, I believe the 1987 Mitsubishi Montero had a carbureted G54B 2.6L 4-cylinder engine. No injectors.

an engine needs 3 things to run. spark, fuel, and correct timming. if you have 2 of those i would check the timming marks. the balancer chain guides were notorius for breaking on the 2.6L. causing the baancer chain to come off and mess up the timming chain. goo place to start anyway.
