97 Montero Sport Need Help! ASAP

Ok, it started off when i replaced my turn signal switch, i unplugged the batter since i had to take off the steering wheel. After I replaced it i plugged the battery back in, and started the car, it starts.. tested the switches and it was good.

The problem is After I tried to drive the Car, I came to stop sign and as i let go of the gas, and the RPM started dropping, the car cut off. RPM completely dropped to zero and I would have to start it back up, but when I did that, It would cut right back off unless i keep the RPM higher than 800-1000RPM. If i do not do that it would just cut right back off on me.

I brought it to a shop and got a tune up, I thought it worked cause it was not acting up after i got the car back until a week later, it started doing it again. Then went away, and then yesterday i tried to drive the car after replacing my brakes, and I noticed the CEL light came on so I drove to Advance auto to use their OBD-II diagnostic tool, and It threw the "P0120" Throttle/Position sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Malfuntion. I cleared it to see if it would come back and it didn't. I remember a while back this code came on but went away that same day.

What is going on here. Please someone help me. I Have a baby due on tuesday and I would really like to have this fixed before then.

Remove the TPS connector and inspect it. If it needs cleaning, spray a bit of electrical contact cleaner and reconnect it. See if that does anything before you go any further.

the TPS is the one located on the backside of the Throttle body, on the passenger side correct?

ok, according the repair manual i was to take the voltages from pins 1 and 4 and they should fall between 0.4-1.0 volts, and im getting a reading of -5.

Is this from the equipment side connector (on the TPS) or the harness? You need an ohmmeter to measure resistance between pins 1 and 4, which should fall between 3.5-6.5 kΩ.

You might also want to connect one pointer to pin 1 and the other to pin 3 as well, then open the throttle from idle to WOT slowly. The resistance should change smoothly, proportionate to the opening angle of the throttle plate. If it doesn't, or fall outside 3.5-6.5 kilohms, replace the TPS. If you have to replace it, don't forget to adjust the new one.
