99 Mont. Sport XLS sputtering

My 99 Sport XLS has started sputtering once in a while when I take off like it is fighting for gas. I changed the fuel filter and it still does it. I has 129k miles on it, I don't think the plugs have ever been changed, so I bought new plugs, wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor to change but a friend of mine says there is no distributor cap or rotor on the Montero Sport:

1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS 3.0 V-6

I amquite surehe is wrong, butI want to make sure. These are theparts I bought:

1997-1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Denso Spark Plug Spark Plug Qty: 6 Part #: W0133-1632154

1997-1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport NGK Ignition Wire Set Ignition Wire Set Qty: 1 Part #: W0133-1731581

1997-1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Bosch Distributor Rotor Distributor Rotor Qty: 1 Part #: W0133-1637344

1997-1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Bosch Distributor Cap Distributor Cap Qty: 1 Part #: W0133-1627633

Does anyone have a step-by-step with pics here that I can see how to change the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor myself?

thx

RE: 99 Mont. Sport XLS sputtering

hello! sorry to bust your bubble, but that vehicle has no distributor. it has a cam and crank sensor to control spark.sounds like to me that the tube seals are leaking into the plugwire tube and have ruined the plugwires. this is very common at that milage. this job is going to require ALOT of skill. to change the leaking tube seals the valve covers will have to come off, and replace the valve cover gaskets as well cause if they arnt leaking they soon will be. to access all of these things the intake is going to have to be removed. i also WOULD NOT use aftermarket parts, especially the plug wires. they are just plain crap. they wont last 6 months before they start doing the same thing again. use factory plug wires at least!! you have to remove the wiring harnessbefore you can begin to unbolt the intake. the connectors on that harness get very brittle after a few years, be gentle cause they will break off in your hand. good luck!! greg...
