Default 2005 Montero Limited P0335 and P0340

Okay Montero detectives, I have a stalling out when hot problem. I live on the high elevation part of town. When returning from downtown or across the river and outside temperature is 85 F or higher, engine will stall at idle or slow speed deceleration. Throws codes listed in title. Changed camshaft position sensor yesterday and today same crap again. Full disclosure, prior to changing the camshaft position sensor yesterday, I was also throwing PO171 and P0174 plus the 2 codes listed in the title. Today I have only seen the P0340 and P0335 codes. Never happens at highway speeds, always at idle or low speeds. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like you have an issue with the wire harness somewhere. It is most likely an intermittent signal loss. I seriously doubt you'd have both cam and crank position sensors go bad, but you may have a bad ground or a bad wire(s) that cause an intermittent signal. This happening with higher temps is a confirmation because heat may cause a terminal or wire bend out of shape further loosing the contact. Don't swap any more parts. Focus on finding the bad connector for now. Don't forget about grounds, especially ground to the PCM.

Hunter D,
Thank you for the response. Since original post, each start (2x) has had the P0340 and P0335 codes showing up straight away which is a new development. Admittedly I have driven the Montero very little since Saturday due to stalling and safety issues with traffic. It has been a very long time since I have chased wires and or grounds. Lets see what I can find.
