Best timing belt and water pump ?
 

I'm replacing my crankshaft sensor and realize that my water pump is faulty so I figured to replace it .... Looking at orielly's and AutoZone I see limited selection .... Rockauto has alot for alot cheaper

Has anyone had a bad experience with rockauto parts ?

I used Contitec on several of my engines with good success.
I'd stay away from dirt cheap ones just in case.

Rockauto carries ACdelco ... There still quality I hope ... Lol

I can't find in my factory manual the firing order or the location of my #1 cylinder to make sure I'm lined up right with my timing marks at TDC

If im in the driver's seat which is my #1 cylinder ?

Parts seem very well made and I have not had any issues.

I used rockauto but had a problem with a set of head gaskets.. u must order two not a set cause a set means only 1 to them...

I've always used OEM. Yes, expensive but I get peace of mind. The Tensioner and Timing Belt in my opinion should be OEM. The AISIN Water pump is a good water pump and comparable to OEM. I bought a Gates water pump and Timing Belt compared it and it wasn't build as tough. The Gates was much lighter. Same thing with the Tensioner. The Gates belt was made of a harder rubber vs Mitsu rubber is softer. Anecdotal of course.

I compared NAPA radiator hoses to Mitsu hoses and the OEM were much softer and malleable. I live in the desert, where everything dries out or dry rots. Softer rubber is better for me.

You can get some OEM parts through Amayama.com. I bought an OEM Tensioner and it was made in Korea. It was the exact same as Mitsu tensioner with the same exact markings and weight. I pay close attention to detail.

Again, just my personal opinion. Everyone has a different budget. But over the course of a few years, I buy all my parts getting ready for the next 60,000 mile service.

Mits OEM parts seem to increase about 10% every year by sitting on the shelf.

I have a 1994 Gen 2 and OEM parts are becoming obsolete. Hyundai has the rights to build gen 2 Monteros new and manufacture parts.

I purchased the Aisin kit and Gates kit from Rock auto. The Aisin kit was Koyo Pulleys, Aisin water pump with all gaskets and Mitsuboshi timing belt which was made in Thailand. The Gates kit has Koyo pulleys and USA made belt. I can't seem to find a Japan made timing belt for the full size Montero. Might stick with the gates one. Btw tensioner, seals and hoses coming from the dealer.

Contitec (CRP) makes solid kits, i replaced mine for 2 years ago. Their own Continental belt, rest of the parts like water pump and rollers/adjuster where Aisin and Koyo parts, and IIRC parts where identical to the ones I replaced (first time, so original parts). On ebay I got very fine price for the kit. Conti(nental) has made belts for decades, and personally I would rate them to be at least as good as Gates. I belive I used this kit on my 6G72 3,0 SOHC.
