Blown blinker fuse and SRS Light
 

The SRS light came on and my blinkers stopped working on my '95 Montero . Replaced the fuse and all was good--for 4 months. Happened again. Replaced fuse and only worked about 20 min. Is this a fault in the SRS system that messes up the blinkers or messed up blinkers which trigger the SRS light. Flashes do work--even with the blown fuse. Any help appreciated!

It is very likely that you have a bad wire somewhere (worn out insulation) that causes short to ground and results in fuze blowing out. If part of the wire loom moves and not touching anything with a damaged spot - everything might works for some time. Then you get a contact again and fuzes blow one after another. This is likely to happen on an older vehicle with many miles.

What's the best way to track down the short???

There is really no easy way. They do make wire tracers for this. But they are expensive and not a "standard" tool in DIY's tool box. Check out ECT2000 Open/Short circuit tester if you are interested. Without it, you have to follow the wire and examine the insulation. Since your problem is with turn signals. I'd unscrew the turn signal housings and examine the wire as it goes from the bulb socket to the wire harness. If you are a very lucky person, you'll find some worn out insulation not too far from the turn signals.

An idea just occurred to me - do you have a trailer wiring plug on your vehicle? If you do - check that first. The wires often come out from the connectors inside the trailer plug and can short out.
