Default Can an LS Take a Sport Engine?

My '95 Mitsubishi LS, 3.0L engine broke its timing belt. I am in need of a replacement engine. I can't find any for the LS model, but have found a used 3.0L engine from a '95 Montero Sport. Will a Sport engine exchange with an LS? I searched the Forum, but couldn't find the answer. I am not a mechanic, so please be clear with your responses. Thanks!

How badly damaged is the original engine? Were you under load on highway or at idle when it happened? It can be just a couple of bent valves. Fairly easy fix and you'll be back on the road.

My 99 LS has a 3.0L, don't see why it wouldn't work.
