Changed IAC, now idles WAY too high??

I have a 1996 Montero (3.5) my IAC went bad (erratic, bouncy, low idle)...I bought a new one and replaced it. It now idles way too high (2k-2.5k rpm).

When I replaced it I cleaned out the throttle body and disconnected the battery for about a minute to reset the system.

I ran it for 20 minutes or so and the idle went down to around 1.5k, but still double what it should.

Anyone have experience with IAC replacement like this? How long does the neg. battery terminal need to be disconnected to reset the computer? Should I just let it run longer, does it take time for the montero to reset?

Any help and direction would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I have same problem

I have a 2002 Montero Sport Limited edition AWD.

I have about 85K on my truck and issues as well.

I replaced the IAC first with a "Standard" brand I bought online and then with a Duralast i picked up at AZ. The first one idled at 2K and wouldn't come down at all. The AZ one starts idling at 2K and then comes down. When i shift into drive the idle returns to about 1K. I thought the first one I bought was defective.

I disconnected the battery overnight and when I came back, same thing still going on.

I have another post on another forum as well with no one answering.

I also cleaned the EGR, replaced the PCV, cleaned the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor. I took it in when I first started having problem with the car dying adn the shop cleaned the throttle body. I took it back twice and the car kept dying when in reverse and cold. I eventually gave up.

Now that I am experiencing this I wonder if the shop reprogrammed the computer to keep it running instead of replacing proper parts.

there is an adjustment on the bottom of the throttle body it has a screw and a allen wrench adjustment slot for the idle

I have a 91 Montero 5spd V6. 260,000 miles. Replaced the head gaskets, runs great
but the idle will not go below 1500 rpm's
I have turn the idle screw down at far as it will go. Any thoughts?
