Cost of replacing Harmonic Balancer
Hi everyone, I just replaced the harmonic balancer on my friends 94 Montero. I had gone to a local shop to see how much they would charge to replace it, and they said it would cost around 600-800! I thought was ridiculous so I told him I would try to do it myself. Well I successfully replaced it but I'm wondering what I should charge him for the work, I was going to charge him half of what the shop would have, 200$ for labor, but I don't want to rip him off. The balancer itself was 100$ but what should I charge for labor?, thanks!

I would say charge him whatever the part cost you plus the number of hours it took times the amount that will let you sleep at night divided by how long you guarantee your work.
Seriously, you should be compensated for your time but really, only you can decide what your labor is worth and how easily it is for your friend to pay it. Go out for beers and work it out on a napkin.
