Default Distributor connector plug on 3.0L Montero

I have a 97 Montero. But, unlike the "normal" 97, mine has a 3.0L 6G72 with a distributor. For ordering parts, I usually specify 94 Montero, and it works out well.

I bought a new distributor, and even though it's part# MD148008 (supposed to be the right one), the connection plug is SLIGHTLY different. The new distributor has a perfectly rectangular plug, while the old one is sort of rhomboid. Both are 4-pin, but the connector is a bit different. In the photo below, the new one is on the left, old one on the right.

The problem is all online parts sellers seem to show distributors with that perfectly rectangular plug, not the one my car uses.

I'm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (as my username implies) so I have to order my parts online, and I'm stuck. Is there an adapter that will let me use the rectangular-plug distributor with my car? Is there a diffierent part# for a distributor with the rhomboid connector?

Many thanks. And if you sell an adapter or other part that would help me, please PM me.

Default Distributor connector plug on 3.0L Montero

I recently swapped a 6g72 out of 1996 Plymouth Voyager into a 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max. Both vehicles have four pin connectors for the distributor. The one in the Mighty max is rectangular, the one in the van is round (rectangular but the ends are round). Order one for a 1996 Voyager and see if that works. Hope that helps.

A note: the Voyager distributor hasn't arrived yet, but I just found out (through an exhaustive internet search) that my Montero is Puerto Rico spec, and the correct part number is MD322639.

Rewiring the connector of the standard Montero distributor did the trick. MD148008 works great with a homemade connector to my engine harness.

By the way, the Plymouth Voyager distributor does not work. Its plug is the same shape, but it has a three-prong connector (Montero is four-prong).
