Montero 1998, 3.5 V6, Starting Issue
Greetings all,
This is my first post. I have a 3.5 V6 (SOHC) 1998 Montero. The problem is the starter doesn't engage sometimes, there are two sounds that come from the driver side footwell... one is a relay tick tick sound and the other is cur cur sound which comes from a black box with 3-4 connectors plugged in (i believe it might be the security system module). Trying the key multiple times works to start the car. To check, I tried unplugging that relay and starting it and it would still start. The only thing that stopped it from starting was unplugging one of the connectors from the black box I'd appreciate any help on how i could fix this Thanks! |

The contacts in your ignition switch are worn. Very common and easy to replace. There are lots of threads on this - like this one started by me when I had the exact same symptoms:

Thank you jrmdir! I've been a little caught up but i will source a new switch and see if that solves my problem
I'll update and let you know if that sorts the problem out in few days Best Regards! |
