Montero ABS issues
Recently, the left front spindle/wheel bearing failed on my 2001 Montero ltd. As I was 500 miles from home, I was at the mercy of a local, unknown shop.
They replaced the spindle, but have left me with an abs issue. When I first start the car, the brakes violently catch and release, making it necessary for me to pump them for control. after a short bit of time, the abs light comes on and the brakes work smoothly, albeit with no ABS. Any hints regarding what is happening? Thanks |
No direct experience in this area but it sounds pretty likely that they messed up the wheel speed sensor when replacing your bearing - or forgot to reinstall it. I'd do a visual inspection of the mounting and wiring and pull it out to make sure it's not broken or blocked. If nothing is obvious then have a dealer pull the ABS error codes.

Thanks, Ron. I'll check it out.
