Neutral safety switch

I've got a 2003 mitsubishi montero sport it won't change out of drive I bought a neutral safety switch but don't know where it goes can someone please tell me

What now

Put the new neutral safety switch on and it still won't change out of drive what else can make it do that
I guess it's on right it goes in park. neutral. Reverse and drive just won't change out of drive when driving it sounds like it's running wide open

Do the reverse lights work? If not it could be a blown fuse.

Is the new switch adjusted correctly?

No all the other lights do I will try finding the fuse and change it thank you so much this thing is starting to get on my nerves

All I know is it goes in reverse and drive when I put it in them it just won't change out of drive when I'm going down the road so I guess the I have the piece on right I have no backup lights all others work this is starting to give me a headache I'm no mechanic

It doesn't gear down it acts like it's stuck in one gear when driving it
will it hurt driving it when it won't change out of drive it runs to good to get rid of or park help I don't know what to do

When changing the Neutral Switch, its goes in one specific position, ifs not in the right position wont work well. If u have Engine light on, scan the vehicle

Relieved

Just want to thank everyone that told me what to do to my ride I put the new neutral safety switch on then changed my fuses and it changes like a new one thank you very much and God bless you all

Are you sure its electrical and not something to do with the linkage? Do you have someone that can move the shift lever with the engine off and see if its physically bound somewhere, maybe rusted or something? Just throwing some ideas out there

I changed that part too, and doesn’t work, how can I adjust to correct the issue, thanks
