Mitsubishi Montero & Montero SportThis sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.
I just bought a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero limited that the owner put oversized wheels on (285/60R18)
The current tire/wheel combination is rubbing when you have to turn fully. And when you reverse it if fully rubbing that lip.
The current chrome wheels are in need of replacing, and the tires are in decent shape so I am thinking about replacing the whole setup.
I need help in figuring out what to do. I like the current size of wheel and look so I am thinking of adding a lift kit.
I am looking to add a 1.5 to 2 inch lift by using pucks. I think adding these spacers will give me the space I need to keep the current wheel size and not have the true investment of a full shock and coil set.
the other option would be to go to a different wheel size that does not rub like( O.E.), but that would be a few $$$ too.
Any suggestions on what to do. Also if anyone has used spacers what has been you experience and what brand did you use.
There are no lift kits for this vehicle that utilize pucks. It is a unibody construction, not body on frame. A lift kit involves replacing all 4 springs with taller and stuffer ones. Highly recomend that you do that. Putting bigger tires on Montero without lifting it is a half a@@ job. It looks better lifted with standard tires, rather than original stance with bigger tires... Plus the rubbing you describe.
Thanks Hunter I think I am going to go back to stock, I am looking at some take off's from a toyota tacoma now. They have the same bolt pattern but I am not sure if I need to worry about offset. I am starting to investigate this now.
I will go the proper route and lift it with coils and shocks when I am ready,
