Oil preassure light on on low revs
Hello, i just bought a 2005 Montero, the oil pressure light comes on on idle or revs below 1500 rpm, i already replaced the switch and does the same, i cant find any videos or pictures of people removing the oil pan or oil pump.
Please help. |
This is a typical sign of worn out bearings. The bearing clearances become too large over time and the oil pump can't maintain enough oil flow at idle RPMs. How many miles on your Montero?
|
Hello, thanks for answering, it has 160.000 miles, i bought the oil pump and oil pan gasket to see if that fixes it.
do i need to remove the timing belt to replace the oil pump? |
This is way too few miles to have this problem. How well do you know ow the history of this truck? Did the PO run it with very low oil / no oil at any point? That would explain this issue...
|
I have had it for 5 day now, don't know much about the PO, i will change the filer and oil my self today and see what i can find, it has plenty of oil (mark is above the max oil on dip stick) and the oil is pretty new.
if after the oil change i keep having the same issue what should be my next step? |
If the oil is very new (not dark color) they you'd be better to leave it as is and drive it as is for some time. Then, when you do change oil, cut open the oil filter and examine it for presence of any metal shavings. That will give you a good idea of what your engine looks/feels like on the inside. Doing thw oil change now is a waste of money. If you have a problem already, the oil change will not fix it.
