Oil Pressure sensor bad?

My oil pressure on my 97 Montero is not registering now. All of the gauges in that cluster are working so I guess that is it? I have also been driving it for the last few weeks so it does have pressure. Where and how hard is it to change out the unit? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
James

RE: Oil Pressure sensor bad?

On my '99 the sender is right above the oil filter - screwed into the base of the oil filter unit.

Hope this helps.

RE: Oil Pressure sensor bad?

I've recently changed mine, because of the same problem. As previously noted, its right above the oil filter and it should take only about 15-20 minutes to replace. Just take extra care if the engine is warm, because some motor oil will spill out. OE part number is 1258A002, and it cost me ~ US$6.50 from the dealer. :)

When you have an oil pressure gauge on top of the dash plus the oil light at the main gauge cluster, does it has only one switch (oil pressure sender the big one) or has an additional oil pressure switch ( a small one, not a sender) to control them independently or the sender controls both? Thanks.
