Default Oxygen sensor question for 2002 Sport

2002 Montero Sport XLS, 3.5L
The OBDII says the oxygen sensor in bank one is out. I'm assuming bank one is before the cat converter (is this correct?).
In my research to replace the oxygen sensor in the most economical way, I've come across two different Bosch "universal types," that supposedly will work. In my past experience, some times they do, some they don't. So, before I purchase these, I thought I'd pose the question to the board.
The Bosch 15733 is said to work for the sensor before the cat converter, and the Bosch 15730 is said to work for the sensor after the converter. They are both heated, 4-wire sensors. I have no problem soldering the old connecter onto the new sensor, if need be.
Does anyone have experience with this? Or any other comments on replacing the oxygen sensor?
Thanks in advance!
Jared

As hard as the Sport is on oxygen sensors, I wouldn't gamble on "universal" aftermarket sensors. I tried it once and got a whopping 10K out of one. Waste of time. I don't know what your budget is but you can by a direct O.E. Denso replacement that plugs right in for a little over $100.00.

and O.E. sensors from mitsubishiparts.com for $106.00

Yours is a front sensor but I don't know if bank 1 is on the right or left.

you should probably get the appropriate software update done to your sport before replacing ANYTHING, as replacing it may not fix your issue.

also, dont ever use aftermarket O2 sensors.

you have 4 O2 sensors. 2 per bank. One upstream and one downstream.

you probably should know what you're doing before just tossing parts at your truck.

That's what I'm attempting to do by posing the question to the board. Kind of a snippy thing to say to someone asking for help...

Regardless, thanks for the good advice. What's the software update of which you speak, and how does one go about getting one?
