Parking lights won't go off

Parking lights won't go off
97 Montero 208K miles.
The parking lights stay on even though I turn them off.
The headlights turn on and off correctly.
The problem just started out of nowhere.
I have to disconnect battery to prevent discharge.
The light stalk rotates normal with detent indicating parking lights & headlights.
Anyone ever had this problem or solved it?
