Piston Position for TDC

Hi Guys

I have a 2006 NP pajero with a 3.8L engine

Timing belt snapped off

Taken the heads off for a rebuild ( suspect belt valves? )

With the heads of, I rotate the engine to align the crank timing, yet piston 1 is down

2 and 5 are up.

Just need confirmation this is correct

Keep in mind the belt snapped so I'm starting from scratch......

That is not the timing mark. If you remove the crankshaft pulley, you'll see the dot imprinted on the front of one of the teeth. That is the proper mark
