pls help problems with the A/C

My Mitsubishi model 2001 3.2 DID has a problem with the A/C. When I switch it on it makes a noise (I think its the belt) and the engine temperature is going up.The mechanic is not sure what it needs to be done. Could anyone help and advise how this can be fixed?
