You need to have the error code read that caused the light to come on. It will probably tell you why the engine is stalling. Disconnecting the battery will only turn the light off for a short while - it will come back. Go to an autoparts store or shop that reads error codes for free and then report back with the code.

Just FYI .. if you disconnect the battery make sure you have the four digit code to re-enable your stock radio/CD player. Otherwise it will be locked out.

Two separate issues. You cannot permanently clear the SES code by disconnecting the battery as jrmdir stated above. But in doing so you erased the memory controlling the IAC which is why it won't idle. You need to clean your throttle body. See the FAQ here:

I would start by cleaning the IAC, then check the MAF sensor.

I have the exact same problem. The mecaninc said it was the mass air flow sensor. I just replaced that and drove around for about 2 miles. The check engine light is off (because I disconnected the battery when i replaced the sensor). However, there is still a low idle. I did have the fuel injectors cleadne 2 times within the past 12 months. Is this the same as cleaning the throttle body? What else might explain the low idle?

Mine almost turns off when I stop the vehicle. If I turn off the AC at complete stop, the vehicle will then turn off.

injectors are COMPLETELY different from throttle body. the throttle body is the point where air enters the engine and has 1-2 'butterfly' type valves that regulate the airflow.

good luck
