I cheated and took the bulb out.
I'm kind of a do it yourselfer,.............I prefer to do Everything possible myself for the learning experience and.........to save the bucks.
I fixed my Compass/outside temperature gauge back light yesterday,...bulb was $3.87 at the dealer,.......................Took about a half an hour to take it out and another half hour to install the bulb, reassemble the complete gauge cluster and put it back in the Montero.
net result, I probably saved $100 of flat rate labor time charges, learned something about my truck and have a sense of accomplishment,..............also found out where the new Mitsubishi dealer is...................just a better deal all around in my opinion.

You can turn off the lights by a RESET button located behind the cluster gauges. The Maint. Req. lights are due to light at 80,000 mi., after 120,000 the light bulb can LEGALY be taken out per vechicle code. You must take out the cluster gauge in order to reset the idiot light, or you can simply take the bulb out as someone did here in the forum.

It is pretty easy to take off the cluster and reset the light. Two screws on top. It is kind of hard to see the reset switch, but it is right behind the light.
Darkman?!?! What kind of answer is that?
