Slotted rotors

I live in the Green Mtns and go through brakes rapidly (1997 Montero SR...awesome vehicle!)
It's about time to do the fronts, so I'm wondering if drilled/slotted rotors will run cooler and, possibly, extend brake life. I've seen a lot of components on eBay and am wondering if I should go that route.

Any comments, advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers,

gc

RE: Slotted rotors

What I was told is that to extend the life of rotors, you should have them Cryo'd (cryogenically treated). As for pads... well... they're cheap. replace them as needed. Also replace brake fluid as per service interval or sooner.

One other thing you can do to extend their life is to avoid driving it like a car which is what 99% of owners inadvertently do. It weighs about 2x what a car weighs and uses about the same sized brakes to this is likely the #1 reason brakes wear down prematurely.

Thanks off roader. I infer, then, that slotted/drilled rotors will not improve pad life. The issue is not $$ but time and climate. I live 1.5 mi up a 7-8 degree grade, and I drive gently. I don't want to replace pads when it's 20 below. Trust me, it's not for the faint of heart![8D]

No I don't believe so, at least not noticably but perhaps someone who's more aware can chime in on that.

As for the climate and grade... well, I guess I know why I live in Cali <GRIN>.
