I've got a 1990 Mitsu Montero - I was driving it on the freeway the other day when something "popped" and I started leaking massive amounts of oil. I pulled over immediatly - My dad came down and we put more oil in it to get it back home - Everything seemed 'ok' other than the fact that it was leaking oil.

The following day, he wanted to go ahead and start it back up to see if he could see the leak - After checking the oil again, he started it up and it began knocking A *TON*. He drained the oil and used a thicker oil which took care of the knock - but if it goes over about 2000 rpms, it begin knocking again.

He *Thinks* it may be a rod issue, but without taking it to a mechanic, he's not certain - Unfortunately that's not soemthing that I'm able to do currently.

Any suggestions as to what to look at for diagnosis? Without a car, can't get the kids to school or get to work .. no work is no money . no money is no rent. Sorta in a bind.
