Sub zero starting
 

Hi all, here's a puzzle I am seeking help on:

Drove home ok as I have for years ...during winter and all. Next morning try to start as usual with the remote start button and ...nothing.

Several attempt prove futile. Spark is at the plugs, suspecting fuel line, fuel filter freeze up? If it is, I noticed little or no room to manouever a wrench to remove/replace it. is there a trick to doing this? I can't think of anything else at the moment what could be wrong.

Any ideas anyone?

Can you give a description of your vehicle?
Year? Model?
I know with my Gen III Montero you access the fuel filter from inside the vehicle. There is a panel you remove, then pull the whole assembly out in order to work on it... a bit of a pain in the neck.

Sorry.... and thanks for your reply. It's a 1998 Montero Sport, xls, 4wd. Yours sound a lot different it seems.

Update: I suspected the timing may be the culprit. After a compression test it showed my hunch was right. For some weird reason the belt had a slag... evident around the waterr pump pulley. So I went ahead and tear it down and did the replacement. I ended up replacing the timing belt and water pump while at it. Also I managed to remove/replace the fuel filter (after much effort) although the fuel was running just fine in the line, a precaution as it has been change for a while.

She is running beautifully now since completing the 'fix' 2 weeks ago.

ps: Added anti-freeze in tank. Engine light was on, no doubt from the problem earlier. I reset by disconnectiog the battery, ...negative first and last.
