Temp. gauge reading hot '01 LTD
 

Hey folks, advice needed;

Coming into work this a.m. my temp gauge was right up the top... HOT!! I stopped a couple of times and found nothing wrong under the hood. Plenty of coolant in the reservoir etc.

I have had a leak recently which was corrected and fluid was topped off.

Has the thermostat gone, or do I have an airlock?

Aside of that I'm at 150k and the truck is a still a bargain beauty!

Ok, so I've got any last bit of air out of the system, I think.

I'm still hitting hot, unless I'm in a strong wind and the heat is on full. I noted the fan is not kicking in either...

Can anyone confirm, it's the thermostat that's gone west?

could be thermostate, but i would take off radiator cap when cold then let run for 10 or 15 minutes to let any air pockets out. does the temp guage fluctuate from hot range to cool range or inbetween?? if so that model had an issue with the control module in the instrument cluster making the guage fluctuate. temp guage at operating temp should be just above the half way point. shouldnt have major fluctuations. other than that, no other issues i can remember on that model

If no smoke was forming lol..

i would check thermostat, or bad gauge/sending unit

Thanks for the responses.

So, I took it into the 'shop this a.m. having driven it in and it showing hot again. Let it cool and started it up... ran at normal temperature.

On driving it, it went up to hot again!

Put the IR temp sensor on it, top hose @ 185-195 degrees, bottom hose 105-115 degrees.

Any further thoughts? Gremlin or thermostat?
