Transmission fluid and filter change 2000 MS
Has anyone changed their ATF and filter in the 2000 (or similar) Montero Sport with the 3.0? Autozone tells there is no filter available and the transmission is basically unservicable.
I noticed a plate on the side of the transmission that I assume houses the filter. I mentioned this to the employee at Autozone and another fellow (customer) told me that he has the same type of transmission and if you remove the plate the transmission gears will fall out. Okay, this sounds pretty unbelievable to me. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. |
I have a filter/gasket kit that I bought from Checkers, I'll get the part # for ya in a few, just got up. From what I have seen in the service manual, you can drain the fluid out, then pump the rest out running the engine until it stops, the drop the tranny pan and change the filter. Re-service, pump more fluid out until it turns bright red, service to the correct level and you are done. Just look for the manual online, I'll try to find the link:
