Vibration at around 2000rpm
 

Hello, I just got a Mitsubishi Montero Limited 2003 and when i'm inside the car I can hear and feel a buzzing vibration at around 2000rpm.
If I'm outside or looking at the engine I cannot hear or see anything unusual at 2k rpm. only when I'm inside the car.
Anything under 1900rpm or above 2100rpm it's smooth.
Also when i rev the engine up to about 4k rpm and let go of the gas it will vibrate on it's way down at around the 2k rpm
Any ideas anyone?

I have the same problem. First i thought it was a torque converter problem. One time i tried reving the engine when it was neutral/park and it vibrates at around 2000 to 2300 rpm. I've reading eclipse forums and it might be related to the balance shaft. I am not sure if our montero has one. but if there is, then its worth a try to check and adjust any belts or tensioner that goes along with it.

Hey, did you ever find out what was wrong with your vehicle? I'm experiencing identical symptoms, and have the same vehicle.

I'd suggest starting with a transmission fluid flush.
Be sure to flush the fluid according to the FSM and refill with MM AFT.
I would not recommend using anything except Mitsubishi Motors AFT.

I have just got a pajero 3.5gdi with the exact same issue and I have seen a lot of suggestions but no one has actually said how to repair this problem. I however have seen 2 people mention the transmission flush. Does this really help and if so does any one know why it helps. Thanks

The problem is with the vibration dampner located on the underside of trans. Remove the dampner along with bracket and your vibration will all but dissapear.

Figured it outmyself after Mitsi Dealer couldn't locate problem.

I have the same problem. Removing the dampener did help, but is still there. I have searched hi and low to find an answer to this but cannot, but seems to be a common problem with the gas v6's. I wouldn't think it is torque converter shutter since it happens in neutral and park as well. Although when I bought mine it did have the torque converter shutter but was fixed by flushing and changing filter. From what I have read it has to do with the degree of the engine creating harmonics. Very annoying since the rest of the vehicle is so nice. I am going to try and make some isolators out of rubber and put between the engine mounts and tranny mount to maybe absorb some of the vibration. I still cannot believe no one has found for sure the root cause and or come up with a solution.

I agree that would help, but does someone make them? Someone could make a fortune if they produced softer engine mounts for these vehicles.
