what is the ignition control sensor, and whats its function and what happens when it goes out?

Do you mean Transistor? It's tucked in the intake manifold with 2 plugs in it. It controls the coil packs. One problem caused is number 3 coil pack will not fire. That is if this is what your talking about. I believe auto part stores call it a ignition control sensor or module.
