Default Won't Start

Hi, I have a '98 Montero (NOT SPoRT, everyone seems to put this so I figured it's customary). Lately, I've been having issues with the vehicle starting. I've done the basics; i.e., check battery, solenoid, starter etc. I've discovered it has something to do with the after-market alarm system, a Silencer 6908. (I purchased the car used from my mom's friend). After finding the control box for the alarm and making sure I could do it properly, I removed the "brain" and reconnected all the factory wires. The are some that are "tapped" into the factory wires, so I left those alone; I am assuming since they weren't cut, they should be fine. However, my vehicle still will not start. When I move the key into the "ON" postion, everything still comes on properly and I can hear the fuel pump working. Does anyone know what I am missing or doing wrong? I wouldappreciate any feed back. Thanks!

Does the car crank and try to turn over when you are engaging the starter?

If the alarm is suspect try to remove the harness from the brain so it is not in play.

This link http://www.carbine.com/silencer/comp...m_harness.html shows the wiring harness for many alarms including the one you removed. Note the "Starter Disable Harness" part. When installing alarms like this it is typical to cut the wire from the ignition switch to the soleniod and then connect both ends to the control box. So when you removed the box the link to the solenoid stays disconnected. You need to find where they cut the wire to the solenoid and repair it. I can look up the color code for you if needed but I'd start at the back of ignition switch and try to follow it.

Another option is to see if the (small) two-wire connector shown in the diagram is still hanging somewhere after you unplugged it from the box. If so cut it off and tie the two wires together and you should be in business.

Clarification question.........

You said the car still won't start. I assumed the problem went from intermittent to permanent after you removed the alarm.

Were you seeing the exact same symptom before and after removal?
