Default 07 outlander xls MAF sensor

HI.
been getting an OBD code for'' left bank lean'' and was advised to possibly clean the MAF sensor. Has anyone done this before? Is the sensor in the air cleaner box?

It's in the tube/box end after the filter. They make a spray clean specially for MAF that will not leave a residue. You can buy it at most auto parts store. Do NOT let someone convince you that any other spray cleaner is ok to use. Do NOT overspray so much that the fluid can build up and get into the circuitry.

If only one bank is lean, then it's not likely the MAF, as it measures the air to both banks.

There are many causes of a lean condition and I would suggest proper diagnosis at a Mitsubishi specialty shop or dealer. Anyone that uses a blanket statement like, "It's always the O2 sensor" will just sell you parts, one after the other, and replace components that are perfectly fine, on your dime, until one eventually fixes the issue. More costly than paying for a diagnosis. Anyhow, good luck

I just wanted to add specifics if it makes any difference..
Autozone obd reader report says" P0174--System too lean cylinders 2-3...
I will try cleaning the maf sensor but wondering if the cylinders affected would indicate o2 sensor or other issue with any clarity?
Thanks

P0174 MITSUBISHI System Too Lean Cylinders 2-3

Think about what all has to go right for the engine to run normally, per side.
- no leaks on the intake, after the MAF sensor.
- no leaks on the exhaust, before the O2 sensors.
- all injectors must be firing correctly.
- all O2 sensors must be operating within parameters.
- fuel must be delivered to the injectors at the correct pressure.

any variation to any of the above will change up the fuel/air mixture.
