I am at 16.5K and the OEM tires are shot. The center of all 4 tires are worn clear down to the tread wear indicators and it now hydroplanes in the rain quite bad. I run the pressures at what the door placard recomends and have even lowered them to 28 psi lately to try to get the shoulders to wear some more with no luck. I have seen this with others tires designed for the japanese and European markets. They are not as concerned about tread wear as we are in the US since they do not put anywhere near the amount of miles on their vehicles that we do on average.
The OE tires may say Goodyear on them, but they were designed and manufacted by the SRI rubber company of Japan as part of a joint venture with Goodyear. I am very dissapointed in the tires and the fact that there are so few offerings in the market for a good replacement tire in the 225/55R18 size.

My wait is finally over. Goodyear (North America) has released the Assurance Comfortred in the 225/55R18 size.
I have been waiting for a non-directional non-oe fitment passenger tire to hit the market and it is finally here. I have 4 ordered. 'bout damn time! Now I can keep the 18" wheels and still have a "good" all season tire that I should see well over the 15K that the crappy OE tires gave me. The Comfortred is warranted for 80K, but I would be excited to see anything over 40K. My old CR-V would eat tires every 25K, no matter what I put on it.

Anyone else experiencing unsatisfactory levels of fast wear with their tires?

 

...what kind of pressures are you running to wear the centers so quick ?

i have the goodyears as well. i run 40 front and 35 rear.

18000 miles and plenty of rubber left across the whole tire.

i have only rotated tires once.

 

I only have 7,000 mileson mine, but no signs of uneven wear. Do you rotate regularly? I've read decent reviews of the OEM Goodyears that say 25K-30K miles worth of treadwear. I hope your experience isn't the norm. Maybe you got a bad set. There are good reviews as well for the new Comfortred. Let us know how they ride.

I'm due for my first rotation, just need to find the time to get it done.

My 2007 XLS came with the Goodyear 18" Eagle LS2. Just 20000 miles and I am seeing the wear on the center of all the tires. I will go with the Assurance when time to replace as I already have them on my 2001 Galant and they are great for all seasons, comfortable ride and good gas mileage.

 

I was running 34 front / 32 rear. I have rotated every 5K. I hope it is an isolated case for ... everyone else's sake.

 

Here in the UK some insurance compaines state you have to replace like with like i.e same brand size etc.

Do you have these sort of conditions in your insurance contract in the USA? May be a quick call to your insurance company just to be on the safe side?

Nothing like that in the US. Most tire dealers just make sure that you put the appropriate speed rated tires on.

 

Don't forget about the load rating as well.

I'm not a fan of the OEM's either. horrible snow and wet traction.

I have the stock Geolanders with a pretty good amount of thread left in them at 17K.

 

I have 38K on my original Goodyears and they are still looking good. I have been rotating them recently every oil change 3-4K.

I will probably replace them at 45K.
