2007 Outlander LS burning oil/lifter tick?

Hello all, just joined up today to pose a question and seek some advice about my Outlander. It's a 2007 LS with the 6B31 3.0L V6, 133k miles on the clock.

A few years ago the car developed some ticking noise from the valvetrain, due to my wife not changing the oil on a regular basis. We promptly changed the oil and it went away. It recurred again last year; the oil was again changed and the lifters bled by the dealership through the standard "rev-to-3k-then-blip-throttle" method, and it went away. It came back yesterday, and I was going to change the oil and bleed the lifters myself after I got back from work. My wife took the car out this morning after I had left and reported that it smelled like it was burning oil, which it has never done before.

Anyone have any advice/insights as to what might be happening? I'm going to go ahead and change the oil tonight and try to bleed the system.

TIA for any insight.

only some of the lifters are hydraulic, some of them are manually adjusted....so if the manuals are worn, then no amount of bleeding will clear up the ticking. Mine tick and I'm not really concerned. You could try going up a grade in oil to see if it'll quiet it down.
