2007 Outlander XLS Emergency Key
I recently bought the car and I got 2 fobs with emergency keys. Both fobs work but neither emergency key does. The previous owner kept the car in very good condition and I believe the keys are original and not tempered with. I understand these are immobilizer-type keys and the original ones were programmed with. Is it possible that the dealer "forgot" to program them? Maybe the more important question is how can I get them reprogrammed? Is the dealer only option? I am in Toronto, Canada.

DO you have the fast key? Are you talking about the little keys inside the fastkey? I think those are only for the doors to get in. When we were picking ours out, the dealership guy tried to start the car using it and it'd turn the starter but not actually start (immobilizer was killing it). Put it back together and used the smartkey **** and it worked just fine.
Most other smart key systems get around this by having a port you can plug your smart key into to recharge it or get it close enough in case of emergency. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a spot to get it really close in the Outlander honestly.

Yes, I have the fast keys that are working fine. I am talking about the little key inside it, known as the emergency key. Mine will open the door. But as soon as I opened it, the alarm would go off. So apprently the emergency key was not "registered" or programmed to the fast key. According to the manual, it was supposed to be done.
Vadimus:
Have you done it before on 2007 XLSs and did it work? How much does it cost to do it?

Well, well -- I have something interesting to report. I got the thing working, at least one key anyways. Here is what happened.
I went and asked a local Mitsu dealership service guy. He told me to use open the door with the emergency key and push the little lock button at the handle to silence the alarm after you open the door. I tried that and it did not work. I mean the alarm will not stop. I told him and he came out to try. Same result. Then got inside anyways and started the car with the key. It stared and the alarm stopped!!
Since then, I have tried the key couple of times and it worked without setting off the alarm at all. I have yet to try the other key from the other fob.
