2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

...Has anyone installed a remote starter on the XLS (bypassing FastKey)? If yes, what brand/model? [/align]

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

I have been told its impossible.
Because the Fast Keyless system looks for a code built into the chip for the keyfob.

There is no way to replicate that system, so there is no way to remote start

From what I hear, Lexus and Mercedes owners have the same problem.

Why Mits choose to not have a remote start option on this car is beyond me.

I also asked if it were possible to remove the FASTkeyless system, and was told by MMA, that its intergrated into the ECU, so no luck there

If anyone comes up with a way,

Im all ears

Somebody from the Craspace forum said he got one installed, and it's somehow rigged to work with the existing FASTKey remote. When the car is started, the doors remained locked. But he goes to say he didn't know what model/brand of remote start the dealership installed. So I take it with a grain salt.

I think the Japan version didn't have it either, so that would explain why. Mitsu manufactures this CUV in different configurations for the worlwide market. And I bet remote start is fancy feature to have in markets outside of the US, thus they skipped it (just my 2 cents). But yes, I would have liked it offered as an option that I can buy later. Although I know it wouldn't be long before 3rd party manufacturer's offers one for the Outlander, but I'd rather buy an original Mitsu OEM part if one is available later. And hopefully there'd be one where it's integrated in the FASTKey, so I don't carry an extra remote.

JMC - Any update?...how did you make out?

Ok...looks like it can be done after my friend did some looking around. I hope to have this done by Friday. The problem is having the FastKey work with the remote start at the same time and not loose one. Also found out you CAN watch a DVD while driving with a simple mod.

Please update again with your findings (when it's done). Thanks.

BTW - what model PYTHON are you planning to install on the XLS?

How do you mod the DVD Player so that you can watch a DVD while driving? Sorry for not editing the quote.

Oh it's cool....it's just a simple re-wire like you'd do with any Navi unitl. I had the same thing done with my Pioneer AVIC-Z1. Any good audio shop will know what to do.

Will modding the DVD playback affect the Mitsu warranty at all? That's my one major concern. Otherwise I'd love be able to do it.

what they dont know, wont hurt them. And remember, According to all state, and federal laws, they can only remove the warranty for the part you have moddified, not the whole car. Like for instance, If I replaced my muffler with a chop shop, or pep-boys remian clearance special, Mitsu can deny any warranty claims on my exhasut, but thats it.

I installed a set of bazooka subs in the rear of my XLS, thus, if mitsu is going to deny an warranty claims, they can only deny those claims on the audio system.

Right on bro....I really doubt they'll even be able to tell what's going on. I'm willing to take the risk to watch DVDs while driving so I can worry more about crashing because I get so into the movie and not the road ahead.....

Hey....so watching a DVD while driving is working. I'm waiting to see what "part" my guy needs to make the remote starter work.

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

I had my remote start installed yesterday :D!! I have a two way 900 compustar that I took out of my VW Beetle. Compustar finally got the info needed from Mitsu to do the install. I have been PATIENTLY waiting since December 19th. It has only one quirk. It still recognizes the FASTkey but if you want to just turn the knob, I have to press the brake and it will kill the starter. Then you have to re-start the car. I thought it was weird that it had to work that way, so I removed the knob and inserted the tiny key from the FASTkey and it unlocked the steering column and starts just like any other car.

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

That rocks and gives me more hope...........it sounds weird that you have to re-start like that. My guys said they needed a part that would make the fastkey and the auto start work together.

cool, I'll have to check on that

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

I'm wondering if I'd be able to have the small key duplicated to a key with a hole in it that I could hang on my key chain. I wouldn't mind using a key instead of the knob to start the car. The remote start works right if you use the key. I don't have to restart the car this way. If that part of the FastKey doesn't have any "computerized parts" in it, I think it should work. I'd guess all the "smart's" of the FastKey is in the other part. I'm afraid I'd lose the small key since it doesn't have a hole to hang it on a ring. I'll check with a lock smith and let you know. The FastKey's locking/unlocking still functions as normal.

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

just drill a hole in ur key... something like an 1/8th, or 3/16ths should be fine

jasnlin 04-19-2007 06:11 PM

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

The computer chip is in the key. The lock shop made a key, but it would not work. I don't think I'd want to drill a hole in the key and wreck the chip. I'll get by the way it is.

Super glue the key to a key ring?

The shop I went to where I live said they can't install on this car. I'm going to ask about the ones mentioned in here but was wondering if anyone has other models to add to the list that work. Thanks!

My local place said they could do it but they need to make use of the spare key. Does that sound about right to those who are familiar with this kind of stuff.

rcpax 10-30-2007 08:20 PM

RE: 2007 Outlander XLS - Remote Car Starter

Or you could have a spare regular key cut from your dealer. They should be able to reprogram the new key to work with your car.
