I am considering the purchase of a 2005 4 cyl, AWD Outlander (Hamilton Ontario) and wondered what happened after you took the car for it's service. Was any reason found for th ehigh fuel consumption and have you seen any improvement?

If anyone else has a similar vehicle could they also comment give their fuel consupmtion figures please.
Thanks

I was told by the dealer to wait till 15K and economy should get better - closer to the expected 10.5 l/100km.
After oil change fuel consumption is at 13.5 l/100km, mostly city driving, with winter tires - calculated at 3 consecutive fillups.
2005 model is the older model, I don't know that one.
I recommend 'Lemon Aid Car Buyers Guide'. It is in my opinion very competent cource of information. I've had a few cars so far and it always turned out that the author was right with what he wrote about the cars.
I would never buy a car without consulting that book.

I have the 2.4 and average 8.5 lt to 100k and I like to be in front. Towing a 1400kg caravan I average 15Lt to 100k. Now its on LPG I get 10 lt to 100k.

The other day my wife traveled 300k which included country and city travel during peak hour and only used 7.7LT to 100k on petrol she doesn't have a lead foot but sits on the posted limits. Don't drive hard and it is cheap to run. Drive like a maniac and it will show it. On LPG she gets around 9.5. For an SUV they are great value and reliable.

Default Fuel consumption getting better

I posted the original message about poor fuel consumption.
Now, update after 18K.
Fuel consumption is much better.
I get between 10 to 12 L/100KM in city driving depending on how much stop & go I do.
If it's a smooth driving, it can go down to 9 L/100 KM.

How long is your commute? SHort trips will really kill your fuel economy, especially in a cold place like Canada as the engine never has a chance to warm up. Hot engines are more efficient.

My commute in the morning is about 15 min.
Yes, short commute affects mileage, the longer I drive the better it gets.
But I still think 15L/100km was too high for a 4 cylinder model.
