2011 Outlander XLS limp mode
Hello,
My 2011 XLS 3.0 mivtech v6 is giving me some issues. Two days ago, it seemed to have uneven reeving. It would reev normaly one second (approx. 800RPM) then the next it would reev high to about 1500 RPM. I thougt nothing of it, thinking that the engine was maybe cold as it was late at night and car had not been touched in a while. I did not use it at that time. Yesterday morning, I hopped in it to head to church and the first cold start ran for about 5 seconds before dying out. The second start, the vehicle reeved consistantly at 1500 RPM. I then put it in drive to see if it would tame itself, but instead the RPM dropped to 200 reevs per minute. The car began to wildly shake (as if it were to stall) so I turned it off and pulled the battery for 5 mins. I then put everything back together and attempted a start. It started but still the same situation. I then called roadside to come tow it and so they did. They did not want to tow it to my home dealer (dixie mitsubishi) but wanted to take it to brampton mitz. So of course in stead of paying for a tow I allowed them to. Today I went into the dealer to soo if they had diagnosed anything on it. They stated that they cannot find what the problem is. It is giving codes but apparently they do not make sense in regards to What the car is doing. They also commented humorously how they had to push it into the bay because it wouldn't move. As if its something funny. Warnings on my display are asc maintenance required and limp mode. Any suggestions? Please. Mitz stated that they will have to contact their tech support as they have never seen anything like it. |
I experienced alike issue 2 years ago. Engine did not start despite being cranked. When it was able to start after 5th or 6th attempt it was shaking running at very low RPMs.
I hold the gas several times to keep them at least 1000 for a minute, and engine came back to norm. What are the errors they found? |
I have had the same trouble as you, Vadimus. I just got back from the dealership and they said they found codes P0657 and P1590 even though my OBD reader didn't. My relays (5 of them) would need to be replaced as per technical service bulletin 07-13-010. However, my relays were replaced once before because of this technical service bulletin. Evidently, this is the third time Mitsubishi has changed the type of relays it uses for the Outlander.
The four relays (A-18X, A-21X, A-24X, A-27X) were originally black, then Mitsubishi changed them to the green ones as per TSB 07-13-010, then again to blue ones (TSB 10-13-002) and now they are supposed to be new black ones. The other relay (A-33X) was originally black in color, then Mitsubishi switched them to grey ones (TSB 10-13-002), and now they are new black ones. I sure hope this solves the problem. I have had this problem at least once a year for the past 4 years. |

The dealership quoted TSB 07-13-010 on my repair order. Maybe they have revised this TSB to now use the new black relays.

Just curious... My '08 Outlander XLS wouldn't start this morning, I put the boost charger on it and it started and ran OK. There was a svc engine light on, and reader picked up P1590. Does anyone know where we can find/see/access the TSB's?
I'm curious about what my dealer hasn't been doing to my truck... |
