2012 RVR fuel economy issue
Hi, I'm new to the forum, but would like to pose a question. I got a new 2012 RVR SE in October and really like the vehicle, however I have a big issue with the fuel consumption.
The reported L/1000km fuel consumption is 8.6 city, 6.6 highway and 7.7 combined. My average has been 9.1 which is nowhere near even the highest figure.
I drive 75km to work each way every day. 90% of my journey is highway, the other city. I have done this exact same journey for years and have used three cars during this time.
Hyundai Tuscan
reported economy: 10.4 city, 7.7 h/w, 9.2 comb - I consistently got 8.4, right in between h/w & comb.
Hyundai Veloster
Repoted economy: 7.5 city, 5.3 h/w, 6.5 comb - I consistently got 6.1, right in between h/w & combo.
So why then is the RVR so crazily over their reported figures. I should add that I have now done over 13,500km, so it has definitely run-in!
I m thinking something must be very wrong with this vehicle and when the next service is due at 16K, I want them to check it out.
Has anyone else has similar issues?

Anything over about 85km/h is going to net you very poor mileage. The little 2.0 just cannot move the car efficiently faster than that. Once you get to 120+km/h you will notice that you literally DOUBLE your L/1000km!
At ~85km/h / 55mph I get over 32 mpg US. At 120+km/h / 80mph I get about 16 mpg US.
Also, best way to improve fuel eco. is an aftermarket air filter. Several people have tried it and all have reported noticeable improvements.

I've been keeping track of my economy for the year of 2012 for my 2012 RVR SE 4WD by recording the amount of litres off my gas receipt to the odometer on my car. I live in Eastern Canada, and we get a little of everything, snow and hot summers.
For January 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, my running average was 11.91L/100km. I find winters are worse because of the winter tires, colder temperatures and really snowy/slippery conditions. When the winter tires come off, in the peak of summer (May - September) I get an average of 8.1L/100km.
I do mostly city driving (but there's lots of hills) and my trips are pretty short, usually 15 minute trips at a time but multiple trips a day. I did a few road trips by highway, one trip in August was around 8.06L/100km but a trip in December was around 10.16L/100km.
Forgot to mention, my car is at 18,655km now.

I think I figured out the sneaky way they advertised it.
They measured it based on imperial gallons. so 20% more, but everyone goes by miles per us gallons.
Anyone is lucky to push it to 28mpg on highway then add 20% cause an imperial gallon is 20% more. Makes it seem as if it would be at least34or 35 mpg
