Activate OEM foglights - no MUT-III

I have a 2007 Outlander LS that came without the factory fog lights. I've found an OEM set online and installed everything that came with the kit (lights/harness/relay/replacement stalkswitch). The new stalk switch with foglight switch operates all original light/indicator functions, but not the foglights yet.

In the included manual, there's a non-MUT-III scan-tool procedure to update the ECU, but so far, I haven't been able to get it to work. Maybe there's a trick to it?

Here's the procedure:
-Close all doors, insert key in ignition and turn to OFF, wait 5+seconds
-buckle drivers seat belt and passengers seat belt.
-turn key to ON, and within 10 seconds, open and close door 5 times
-turn foglight switch to ON position, and a buzzer should sound. (but it hasn't for me yet)
-once buzzer sounds, turn foglight switch to on and hold for 3 seconds, wait for buzzer to sound again and foglights will have been enabled. If buzzer sounds twice, foglights have been disabled.

Now, my question.
- Is there a trick to this?
- OFF is the default key position when first inserted, should I first turn to ACC/ON, then OFF? before beginning?
- Do I need to pull the NEG terminal on the battery between attempts to clear the ECU of instructions?
- foglights only light while driving lights are on (not headlights), should I switch driving lights on before these steps?
- could it be that the instructions are only suited to later model years, and 2007 has a different procedure? The kit is MZ380376EX

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Maybe there's someone local able to change ETACS settings for you.

Filling in your forum profile location part generally helps.

As per our map, the nearest guy able to alter ETACS settings is in Calgary:
