Looks like we can use castrol synthetic as an alternative

unless it specifically says it covers ATF-J1/J2/J3 fluids...I would not run it. it does say it covers the JASO 1A, but so does Royal Purple's Multi-Vehicle ATF...and that specifically calls out not to use it in our application. So that tells me that ATF-J2 does not follow the JASO 1A standard.

Didn't see that.

Here is a full synthetic made by havoline a chevron brand.

$4.20 a quart. 1 12 pack is enough for a flush and fill just like the instructions show. Full synthetic.Rated for Jaso j3.

Looks like we have a winner

Just got back from having our ETACS and fan-blower motor replaced under the recent recall.

I had the opportunity to talk to the service manager about the new Havoline Dextron VI ATF which is specified by Chevron to be a replacement for Dia Queen J2 and J3. In short, he told me point-blank that were I to use the Dextron instead of J3, that Mitsubishi would use this as an excuse to void the warranty and reject any warranty claim on the trans axle should something go amiss.

How nice.

He did, however, thank me for bringing in the Dextron pdf and making him aware of a Dia Queen substitute for "those whose vehicles are off-warranty", because this would be a far less expensive fluid than the DQ.

These expensive maintenance requirements are nothing but extortion, IMO. If they could get away with it on crankcase oil changes, too, I'm sure they would.

I need to do mine now at 30k
Looks like you need to order 10 qts of fluid, is that right?

What I need is the Diaqueen J3 for the V6 engine now right?

I'd get 10 qts.

Thanks for the link. I live in Canada, so I don't as yet know if there is a similar relevant statute in Canada.

The service manager said that, unlike crankcase oil, Mitsubishi specifies their very own, very conveneintly expensive, Dia Queen brand J3 ATF and no other equivalent fluid for their transaxles that require J3. I asked him to verify what he said with Mitsubishi, but he said he already knew what their reply would be. This statement I found not only incredible, but very fishy. He apparently doesn't even realize how ridiculous and illogical his impulsive answer was. The Havoline is a new product that he had never even heard of before my handing him the pdf, so how could he possibly know what Mitsubishi's official response would be to a query about whether it would be an acceptable substitute for J3? Answer: he couldn't. He just does not want to take the trouble to ask. He wants to continue to sell J3.

To anybody, is there any way to put this question to Mitsubishi Central and get an official response?

Thanks.
